What is a Zillennial?

You've probably heard about Boomers, Millennials, Gen Z, and even the adorable Gen Alpha, but have you ever come across the term 'Zillennial'? Now, we know there's no official definition yet, but we like to think it's our own little club for those born between 1995 and 2002 (the range varies depending on definition).

We're in this unique spot—not quite fully Millennials, having lived through SARS, 9/11, and big recessions without fully grasping it all. Yet, we're not entirely Gen Z either; when someone says TikTok, our minds first go to the song, not just the app. Our early 20s were a wild ride, pursuing degrees in the midst of COVID-19, missing out on the typical student experience. There's more to our story, but if you 'get it,' you're probably one of us.

What inspired The Zillennial Couple?

First and foremost, it's our shared generational identity that forms the backbone of our connection (that is lowkey stretching it, but you get the idea). As Zillennials (born in 2000), we find ourselves in this unique space between Millennials and Gen Z. We feel too old for Gen Z but too young to fit in with Millennials, so we searched for something in between and found Zillennials. The blend of millennial and Gen Z influences has undeniably shaped our perspectives, interests, and values.

Our journey has been marked by navigating through the challenges that our generation faced—whether it was the impact of significant events, both locally in Singapore and internationally like SARS (kind of a regional problem), 9/11, or more recently, tackling the hurdles of pursuing our further studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Finding our place in the world due to being in-between the dot.com boom and witnessing the hyper-changes in technology really forces us to grow faster than ever, and it's very overwhelming.

As a Zillennial, we are not as fast at following new trends as Gen Z or even Gen Alpha, but still expected to be since we are younger than Millennials. Overcoming these challenges together has not only strengthened our bond as a couple but also inspired us to share our experiences with the wider Zillennial community.

One of the key inspirations behind our venture is our shared love for various hobbies. From gaming and exploring diverse cuisines to embarking on exciting travel adventures and supporting each other's new interests (we do hyper-fixate on new things pretty often), our common interests have played a pivotal role in shaping our lifestyle.

Beyond our personal connection, we're motivated by the desire to connect with fellow Zillennials. We aim to create a platform that resonates with our peers, offering relatable content that reflects the unique experiences and interests of our generation. Building a sense of community and providing inspiration are at the heart of what we do.

Looking ahead, our vision involves not just creating content but also building a future together. Our shared goals, dreams, and aspirations are not only the driving force behind our daily activities but also the foundation upon which we're building this exciting journey.
